Meet Barb
Despite multiple trips to the ER, an explanation for her sporadic, dangerously high heart rate was lacking.
“They initially diagnosed me as having anxiety attacks. I didn’t fit the usual profile for cardiac issues. I was at a healthy weight, didn’t drink or smoke and I was very active. At the age of 35, my fainting spells began to cause seizures, prompting my cardiologists to order further testing.”
The results revealed an extra passageway in her heart that was responsible for the abnormal electrical activity. Barb remembers, “The repair was a very simple procedure called an ablation to cauterize the area. I was so relieved to no longer have to worry about fainting and possibly hurting my children or someone else if it happened at an inopportune time.”
It has been 18 years since her ablation and Barb happily shares that she has had no further issues.
Barb and her family encourage you to educate yourself and be vigilant about the warning signs your body may be sending. “Our family has a history of heart disease. My father died of a massive heart attack and my two brothers both suffered heart attacks at a young age. If you feel something is wrong with your body, be persistent about seeking treatment,” states Barb.
