Lindsay started running about 2 years ago and completed her first 5k in August of 2012. A friend told Lindsay about a group called I Run 4, which matches runners with people, mostly children, who have disabilities and may never be able to run themselves.
“I signed up towards the end of last summer and anxiously waited to see what sweet child I got to dedicate my miles to. Finally towards the end of October, 5 days before my birthday, I was matched with a beautiful little girl named Tara, from Southern California.”
Tara has an acquired heart defect from a virus she got when she was only 8 days old. Lindsay decided that she would run at least 1 race a month this calendar year for her.
Run for Your Heart is “extra special not only because of the cause, but also because the race day is Tara's 7th birthday.”
Tara’s mother, Kathie says “It's the highlight of Tara's day to get updates from Lindsay about races or just her day. These two are separated by 2,000 miles, but have a very special bond!”
