Meet Jamie
One Saturday morning in June 2005, Jamie passed out while taking a shower. Thankfully, her husband was at home and took her into the ER. After several tests did not reveal a cause for her fainting spell, she returned home. “After lunch, I was sitting on the floor changing my daughter’s diaper when I passed out again,” Jamie remembers.
She was admitted to the hospital for overnight observation, where she fainted for a third time. The heart monitors revealed something startling. “My heart stopped for 4 seconds, took 2 beats and stopped for 3 more seconds. As soon as that happened, they moved me to ICU. The next day, I had several different tests done, and was informed I needed a pacemaker...at 29…I would be getting a pacemaker. I thought those were for old people, but like cancer, heart conditions have no age barrier.”
Jamie recently had a surgical procedure to replace the battery in her pacemaker. Because of her fitness level, she was able to quickly resume her routine, including running. Jamie began…and fell in love with…running three years ago.
“This past May, I finished my third half marathon and will be running my fourth alongside one of my friends at Run for Your Heart,” shares Jamie. She has also inspired her mom, dad, daughter, niece, sister and many other friends to take up running and join her in races.
As a certified bootcamp/group fitness instructor, Jamie is committed to “getting stronger and healthier everyday as well as helping my family and friends live strong, healthy, happy lives!”
