Meet Joe
In March 2014, Joe was on his way to work, when he began to have an uncomfortable feeling in his throat. “At the time, I assumed my breakfast wasn't agreeing with me and continued into work. I have never noticed any other serious issues prior to this. In fact, my doctor had told me how impressed he was with my health in previous visits.”
As the day went on, his discomfort lingered and progressed into feeling like he had something with rough edges lodged in his throat. The sensation would ease and return in waves.
Joe remembers, “Shortly after 2 pm, I was sitting in the break room when I suddenly started feeling nauseous. I quietly left the room, and tingling quickly started in both my arms. I knew then that something wasn't right.” Joe decided to head to the plant’s onsite medical department and notified his supervisor. Recognizing something was wrong, the supervisor immediately called 911.
When the paramedics arrived, they quickly confirmed that Joe was suffering a heart attack. “As I have been told, from the time they picked me up in the plant until the time they had my heart functioning again, was about 20 minutes.” This quick response and immediate care was critical in saving Joe’s life.
“There were two clots causing 100% blockage, essentially shutting down the left side of my heart.” Thankfully, Joe’s latest tests have shown no permanent damage. He is extremely grateful to be alive and have the amazing opportunity of welcoming his grandson, Reed, into the world.
